The flex matrix question is a pretty versatile question. While it doesn’t do kung fu, it does allow you the ability to mix and match a few types of questions in one! If you’re familiar with the matrix question, you already know that you can have multiple rows of items, and you can either have a select one, select many, or spreadsheet-style option for users to respond.
An example of a simple matrix question is below.
With the flex matrix, you keep the rows, but you can have multiple response type options in the columns. These include a drop-down menu, select one, select many, and text box (text or numeric). When would you use such a question? Let’s say you’re trying to gather times when someone would be available for a meeting. You could easily set up the question to include the days of the week, asking the respondent to select which days work best, and then ask them to enter the open times they are available on each of the days they selected.
Or, let’s say you want to know how satisfied someone is with a set of products and how often those products are being used. Here’s how it would look using the flex matrix question.
Using the flex matrix, you’ve just made the user experience better for your survey, while getting multiple points of data in a single question!
